College Bucket List

College Bucket List

Hello, lovelies! So classes start on Monday, and I’m really excited and nervous. I honestly don’t know what to expect. Because of this transition, I decided to publish a college bucket list to commemorate it. This is for me to look back on in the future and to give you ideas on what to put on yours. I hope you enjoy.

1.//Make At Least 1 True Life Long Friends

I don’t want a whole gaggle of fake friends. If I make at least ONE real and true friends, I’ll be happy. I feel like the more friends you have, the less genuine they are. Like if you have a certain amount of sugar and you divide it into 20 cookies rather than five, the cookies won’t taste as sweet. Of course, I want to put myself out there and meet new people, but I want to make at least 1 life long friend. (I already have a lot of friends from middle and high school anyway)

2.//Go To A Concert

This seems like one of those things college students do. I also haven’t been to a concert in a while, and I remember them being a lot of fun. Some colleges also bring pretty big stars to perform on campus, so that’ll be an awesome experience.

3.//Have A Fun All-Nighter

Not one full of studying and homework. I remember I was at a show at a college last year (I got in free because I was in a scholarship competition), and these two college students were in front of me. It was almost midnight, and the girl said, “I’m craving Waffle House.” The boy said, “Let’s go.” The girl gave him a confused look, then the boy said, “What’s stopping us?” That freedom is something I’m really excited about for college and I honestly can’t wait.

4.//Finish A Smash Book Specifically For College

So I went into how I use Smashbooks in my Memory Box post. It’s basically a book with patterned paper. I made one in high school filled with dance tickets and photos and journal entries. I want to make another one for college. I actually already bought one. (It’s this one if you’re curious)

(Check out Belinda Selene’s video about how to use a smash book if you’re interested.)

5.//Get On The Dean’s List

Of course, getting good grades will be a big priority for me in college. Getting on the Dean’s List is a huge goal of mine, so I will definitely work hard to get to that point.

6.//Study, Volunteer, or Work Abroad

I probably won’t take a whole semester abroad. I would love to, but I don’t want to leave Mysoon (my brother with autism) for that long and I’m pretty sure my mom wouldn’t be able to handle it. I’ll most likely study abroad during the summer so that I can get some credits out of the way and travel.

If not, I’d like to work abroad. I would love to teach special education in another country for a few weeks. I’ve found a few programs that’ll allow me to do that and I think I’d enjoy that more than studying abroad because I’d actually be doing something.

7.//Go To A Football Game

I am not a football person. I went to nerd school where high school football games were robotics tournaments. (Those were awesome) But since college football is a big thing, especially in Georgia, and I think I should at least go to one football game. I doubt I’ll go to anymore after that.

8.//Write Something For The Campus Newspaper

I would love to write something for my campus newspaper or blog. I really enjoy writing (obviously), and doing this blog has been such a fulfilling and productive use of my time. Writing for the campus newspaper is definitely something I want to do.

9.//Go On A Road Trip With My Friends

My friends and I have talked about doing this for a while. We actually wanted to do it this summer, but we didn’t have time. I did a bunch of traveling this summer anyway, so it’s probably a good thing we didn’t pencil that in. It’s okay. We’ll take a road trip around the U.S. at some point in college.

10.//Travel To A New Place Every Year

I plan on taking advantage of all the long breaks I have during college. I have heard so many people say that their biggest regret about college was that they didn’t travel enough. This is the only time in your life you’ll have a 3-month long break before you have to squeeze all your vacation time into two short weeks. I’m going to take advantage of all the vacation time and save enough money to do it.

11.//Backpack Europe

This is another big trip I want to do during college. Backpacking Europe takes time, which I will have during college breaks. It’ll also be easier to stay in hostels and pack less. Did you know that some tours will charge less if you are in college? Eurail Passes are cheaper if you’re under 26-years-old and I want to take advantage of those discounts.

(This is completely random, but I could hear my southern accent in my head while writing that sentence. Pronouncing “I’m” as “Ahm.” That’s my digression for this post.)

12.//Live In A Dorm

There will never be a time in my life after this where I will be able to live in a dorm. I don’t want to live with my parents the entire time I’m in college. Even though it saves money, I’d like to have the experience of living on campus at some point in the next few years.

13.//Take Advantage Of The Gym

Am I the only person who’s excited about having access to a gym? I mean, I’m already paying for it and it’s good for my health. It’s also a good way to avoid the Freshman 15. Walking from class to class will be good exercise, but I still want to take advantage of the gym.

14.//Write A Letter To My Senior Self

I did this in High School and I really enjoyed reading it. I want to do this for myself again in college to see how many of my goals I reach and what I hoped I would accomplish at the beginning of college.

There are also a bunch of fun stuff I would like to include in my letter like current gas prices, what songs are popular right now, fashion trends, politics…for me to look back on and see how things change. That’ll be really fun to read.

15.//Eat At As Many New Restaurants As Possible

Since I’m commuting, I’ll bring lunch some days and eat out on others. For this semester, I will try to go to one new restaurant every week. I really want to limit eating out because that can get expensive, but it makes sense to, given my situation.

A friend of mine and I walked around campus the other day, and we saw so many awesome restaurants we want to try. There is this whole avenue full of restaurants with ethnic foods. There is a Turkish restaurant I am dying to try. I am definitely taking advantage of all the restaurants in Downtown Atlanta.

16.//Watch As Many Shows At The Fox Theatre As Possible

I absolutely love Broadway Shows, and many come to the Fox Theatre in Atlanta when they start traveling. I would rather spend my money on experiences than stuff, so I will definitely save money for tickets. Some awesome shows that are coming this year are The Little Mermaid, Phantom of the Opera, and Finding Neverland. I am most excited about Finding Neverland because Peter Pan is one of my favorite books and movies. When I saw it was closing on August 21st, while I was in New York, I was disappointed because I really wanted to watch it. I considered watching it there until I realized it was coming to Atlanta, so I decided to wait.

17.//Participate In A Campus-Wide Tradition

These are lasting memories I want to make, so I plan on participating in them. The weirder the better, so bring it on.

18.//Take A Class That Has Nothing To Do With My Major

I am actually taking one this semester, but I plan on taking more. I love learning and there are so many cool and unique classes to take in college. I am going to take advantage of that. One of my friends is taking a class on Witchcraft in Literature.

19.//Travel To Bangladesh

This is a trip I will definitely want to take in college. That’s where my family is from and I’ve never been. I really want to meet my cousins and grandma in Bangladesh in person. I also really just want to see the country. I may not be able to in college considering all the dangerous things that have been happening there lately, but hopefully, I will make it happen.

20.//Watch A Campus Theatre Production

I really love watching shows, so I’m definitely going to take advantage of the free admission.

21.//Visit My Friends Who Attend Other Colleges

I’m really happy that my close friends are staying in Georgia. I want to make visiting them a priority. Most of their colleges are just a few train stops away.

22.//Continue Blogging

I really enjoy blogging and hope to continue doing it throughout college. (Ironically, I’ve been a college blogger for the last few months, but my first day of college is on Monday.) I plan on using this blog to document my college experience and giving tips and tricks along the way. I also want this blog to hold me accountable to my long term goals like traveling and helping people with disabilities.

23.//Become Really Involved In A Club

I don’t want to join a million clubs and only put in half the effort. I want to be EXTREMELY involved in one or two clubs and put in my all.

24.//Attend A College Party

Drinking has never really appealed to me, but attending a college party is an experience I want to have. I’ll go at least once to see if I enjoy it. I don’t really trust how television has portrayed college, so I want to see for myself.

25.//Go On A Spring Break Trip

Maybe Mexico. I’ve never been to Mexico. The tickets are also relatively inexpensive, so I’ll take advantage. Like I said before, I want to travel a lot in college, and spring break isn’t an exception. Hopefully, my friends and I will be able to plan an awesome one.

26.//Become A Regular Somewhere

Like, I walk in and the people already know my order type of regular. My family is actually a regular at a Chinese Restaurant. They know what we order, they ask how we’re doing or where one of us is when they don’t come, and we also recognize their kids. It’s nice. I want to become a regular at an awesome restaurant or coffee shop near my college.

27.//Go To Every Big Tourist Attraction In Atlanta

There are a lot and I plan on seeing them all. Some of them again and some others for the first time. Atlanta has a lot of things to offer, so I plan on being a tourist in my own city.

28.//Take A Disney Trip With My Friends

This is the last travel-related bucket list item. I promise. My friend Nawmi has never been to Disney World and she really wants to, so we’ve been talking about doing that eventually.

Another one of my friends goes to Disney World ALL THE TIME. Her family has an annual pass. I’m not even joking when I say they take their kids out of school to go to EPCOT for the Food and Wine Festival (You basically try food and wine from all over the world). She has told me about how fun it is and we plan on taking a trip there to attend that festival. (And Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, of course.)

29.//Take 1,000 Photos

If I’m honest with myself, it’ll be more than 1,000. This point was actually going to be “take 1,000 per year,” but I don’t want to go through and organize that many pictures, so I’ll stick to 1,000. I love looking through old pictures, so I want a whole arsenal of pictures from college to go through in twenty years.

30.//Graduate (Duh!)

Do I really need to explain this point? I don’t plan on being in college forever and I don’t plan on dropping out, so graduating is the last option. Otherwise, what’s the point? (Other than learning new things and making new friends, of course)

So that is my college bucket list. I will write an update when I graduate to show you how I did. I hope you’ve enjoyed.

  1. This is a great list! I hope you get to go all if not most of these things! It’s a really cool idea to do a letter to your senior self, and to include current events because it will be so cool in the future to see how things have changed. College is suppose to be an amazing time in our lives full of changes and new beginnings. I’m half way done with my Journey and i have had the most self development in college. 1. I wrote a letter to my senior self in High School and it was hilarious to read the predictions my friends and I made for 2016 (We were required to do it for our English class, so there were some things we had to write about). We had predicted that gas prices would go up to $5-$6. Also, I just read your post. I really liked it.

  2. I love your love for your brother and your family. I am from Bangladesh too and it so hard to find people who love and appreciate their family while also forging a path of their own. Lots of love for you.

  3. Try studying spanish in Cancun, Mexico, one of our greatest beaches and trust your mom, she’ll handle your leaving

    1. I’m more of a mountain girl. I can only handle the beach in small doses, but I would LOVE to visit Cancun someday. It’s on my bucket list. I’m more worried about my brother’s reaction. He won’t understand why I left. In his mind, I just disappeared. My mom could handle it. She’d just be incredibly passive aggressive about it.

P.S. Sorry for the late reply

  4. Wow! What an amazing list – I just finished my first year at my university and I’m excited to start the next one. This blog is great and I’m looking forward to more posts! ?

    1. Thank you! I’ve crossed off a lot of stuff in just my first year. Fingers crossed that I’ll be able to do everything by the time I graduate. I’m glad you like my blog and keep reading and commenting! I love it when readers do even though it’s sort of awkward to reply.
