Fall 2016 Semester Goals

Fall 2016 Semester Goals

I started writing my semester goals a few days before school started, but I decided not to publish them until I got an idea of what college is like. It’s a good thing I did because many of my goals changed. Well…here they are.

(Note: This post was inspired by Dani Dearest  who has been doing this for the last two years. She does 15 goals for 15 weeks. I only have 14 weeks, so I only wrote 14 goals. You should go check out her blog.)

1//Pre-Write Lecture Notes Before Class

So my professors post their weekly powerpoint lectures the weekend before classes. I’ve been pre-writing them before the lectures so that I can pay attention to what the teacher is saying and not worry about copying everything down on the power point. I’ll also be able to highlight and underline with colored pens as I go. I’ve noticed how much better I understand the material when I do this, so I want to do this for every class.

2//Save $2500

I’m really good at saving money because I never buy things that I don’t 100% want. That, or I’m really hungry at a book festival and all the food is expensive (That corn dog tasted horrible!), but I’m digressing. This goal is pretty self-explanatory. I just have to put $2500 into savings.

3//Consistantly Use My Planner The Whole Semester

I’ve been pretty good about that so far. In high school, I’d always use my planner for the first few weeks, then stop using it altogether. This year, I bought the Emily Ley Simplified Planner (I got the pineapple one because it was pretty and reminded me of my friend, Cindy). I’ve never spent this much money on a planner before, but it was a worthy investment. (I also got a discount, so it was $15 cheaper.) I chose the daily one because it had a schedule and to-do list on every page. You can see if you click the link. I just want to make sure I continue using my planner for the rest of the year because I’ve never been able to maintain that habit.

4//Go To The Gym 3-5 Times A Week

When I started outlining this post during the summer, it was “go to the gym 2-3 times per week,” but now that I’m in the thick of it in college, I increased the number. I absolutely love going to the gym. For the most part, I go every day. I love the classes and it makes me feel so great.

I went to the gym every day the first week of school, and my entire body ached with pain. But now, my body has become accustomed to working out, so my muscles barely ache at all.

Tell me if you guys are interested in a workout routine post because I’m considering it.

5//Make $500 Through Blogging

It was originally $250, but I decided to challenge myself and double it. I’m not even completely sure this is doable, but I’m up for the challenge.

6//Get At Least a B+ in All My Classes

I’m 80% sure I can get all A’s, but I’m not going to beat myself up if I don’t. I went to a college-leveled high school and it was brutal. I understand the feeling of studying hard for a test and still failing. I still want to do well and get more scholarships, so this goal is definitely a priority.

(I just took my first exam today, and I’m sure I got at least a 94 if not higher. Fingers crossed though)

7//Post On Blog At Least 7 Times A Month

I honestly don’t know if I can do this, but I’ll give it a try. I wrote exactly seven in August and this will be my third post for September. I should be able to publish more than seven this month based on my editorial calendar, but I will have to prioritize exams over writing, so we’ll see.

8//Find More Scholarships For School

Scholarships don’t stop after high school. There are still so many I can apply for as a college student, so I want to take advantage.

9//Read One Book For Pleasure Every Month

I had honestly thought this would be hard, but it has been the easiest goal so far. I read on the train on the way to school and back every day. It’s awesome. I do most of my studying at home and at the library, so I get all my pleasure reading done on the train. I’ve only studied once on the train and that was this morning for my exam and I still think I did well.

Self-Care is something everyone should prioritize in college, so I usually read instead of study and do homework on the train. I’ve finished four books (not including the audiobooks I listen to in the car) in the last 3.4 weeks (Yes, I calculated) school has been open, so I’m loving this arrangement.

10//Meet Up With A Friend That Goes To Another School Once A Month

I’m very lucky that most of my close friends are going to school in Georgia. I want to meet up with one each month. It’s been weird going from seeing them every day to almost never, but I don’t think it’ll  hurt our friendships much.

11//Journal Once A Week

So far, I have failed at this. I want to journal more because I love writing, but I’ve been getting enough writing satisfaction through this blog, so I don’t know if I can do this.

Maybe I’ll pre-write weekly writing topics on a post-it note and stick it on my journal. That may work. We’ll see.

12//Finish Podcast 2 Days Before It’s Due

So my Englis class isn’t reading based. It’s podcast based, which basically means that I don’t regularly read articles for homework. I listen to podcasts. This has been so fun and I’ve heard such interesting stories. They also foster great discussions.

Instead of writing an essay for the final exam, I have to record a podcast. All the equipment is provided, so at least I don’t have to worry about that. I want to finish this assignment early so that there won’t be so much stress behind it.

13//Not Cut My Hair

So up until 9th grade, I had cut my hair religiously every other year. For two years, I would let my hair grow past my waist (which is very long, considering I’m almost 5’10”) then I would chop it up to my neck. After my freshman year, I didn’t want to deal with my hair, so I kept it short. Once it reached my chest, I’d chop it off. I even tried to grow it out in my senior year for graduation, but I cut it again in January because I just couldn’t deal with it.

The point is, I want to prevent myself from cutting my hair this semester. I’m sure I can do this…this semester. The real question is whether or not I’ll be able to hold back next semester.

14//Do Something On My List

So if you’ve read this blog before, you’ve probably seen my list. It’s pretty substantial because it’s a bunch of things that I want to do with my life. I constantly add and get rid of items based on my current aspirations because…come on! Everyone changes and grows throughout their life. Your goals are going to change. Ask all the people who didn’t want kids as a teenager, but have several children that they couldn’t live without now.

Well…now that that digression-slash-mini-rant is done. This semester I want to cross something (Hopefully multiple things) off that list.

So those are my goals for this semester. I’ll give you an update on how I do in December. On that note, have a great day.

  1. This was such a great read, and it’s honestly so inspiring. I have a few goals of myself (actually wrote a blog post about it lol) that I want to accomplish before the semester ends and reading your list gave me ideas for a few more tasks I’d like to see get done (namely the saving $2,500 haha my friends and I are such foodies that I blow a lot of money on food). Your first goal has been a personal goal of mine since my freshman year, but because I’m just too darn lazy, I never get it done. 🙁

Good luck on all your goals, and I hope you accomplish most of them!

    1. Thanks. I just checked out your blog and I really like it. Can’t wait to read it more. I eat out a lot, too. This year, I started taking my lunch to school 3-4 times a week because going to restaurants and places on campus was really expensive. I’m trying to save a lot of money because I want to go to Europe this summer. I am on track to do that, so there will be many blog posts to come if I manage to take that trip. It’s nice to meet you. Can’t wait to see your blog progress.
