My February Goals

I know what you’re thinking. “Where the heck have you been?!?!” I haven’t published a post in two and a half weeks, which is like a month in blogging time, so I’ve got a lot to make up for. I honestly just couldn’t bring myself to write. Don’t get me wrong, I tried. After a while, I decided not to write until I felt like it again because I don’t want blogging to be a chore for me. I’ll go more into why I haven’t written later, so let’s get into the post.

//Thoughts On January//

I didn’t post any January Goals. At the end of my 2017 goals post, I told you I was just going to get used to school that month (which I did by the way). I gotta say, January went by fast. Where did the time go? I will admit, politics has made me a bit depressed, but life goes on. School has been going great. I’m getting all my work done and have a three day weekend, now  (though I’m not utilizing it very well)

Since I didn’t write any January Goals, I guess I’ll write about how I’ve been doing on my 2017 word of the year. If you haven’t read the post, I basically chose a word and wrote goals that corresponded with it. (Go read it to find out). Overall, I’ve done really well. I started working out again after an excruciatingly sedentary winter break and have been doing well in school. My bank account isn’t where I want it to be, but I have to remind myself that my net worth is a lot higher than most people my age, so I shouldn’t be too hard on myself. (This is not humble bragging. I genuinely have to bring this thought to mind, so I don’t berate myself on my life choices. You can’t do everything.)

Two things I’ve sucked at is working at my desk and drinking milk. The bed is just so comfy and I don’t feel like sitting in a chair after a long day (though I’m giving myself brownie points for writing this post from my desk.) I literally drank a glass of milk once on like January 2nd and never touched the stuff again. In my defense, I get most of my dairy from yogurt and cheese, so I may just scrap that goal.

//Get Ahead On 2 Blog Posts And Start Publishing Weekly

I took a little break from blogging in the last few weeks. I just haven’t been able to bring myself to write as much, but I’m putting myself on a schedule now. Expect a post to be live every Tuesday from now on. (Everyone publishes on Mondays and there are never any new blog posts on Tuesdays, which is why I chose that day.)

I also want to be two blog posts ahead from now on. After some time, I hope to start publishing twice a week again because it’s been a while since I’ve done that.

//Finish All Transfer Paperwork

I’ve told everyone that I’m transferring before. I got into the school last year and know I’m already in, so thankfully I don’t have to stress too much about that. There’s still a bunch of paperwork to do and I plan on finishing it this month (By next weekend if everything goes as planned).

//Add Advertisements To This Site

This all comes down to laziness. I applied for Google Adsense a while ago and got in, but I haven’t installed the code yet. I definitely want to get this done this month. (Unless one of you wants to do it for me. Anyone? Anyone?)

//Join Mailchimp

I’ve been procrastinating on adding opt-in freebies to this site. Partially because I don’t have a MailChimp account and haven’t created a professional blog email. I’m just gonna get to it because this is the first step to growing my email list and I think I’ve waited long enough.

//Join Another Pinterest Group Board

These are the best ways to increase traffic and I haven’t joined a new group board in a while, so I’ll apply for a few. If any of you have one catered towards college students, I’d love to join.

//Get One New Student

I work with special needs kids and have to network to get students. This may already be done though because a mom contacted me about tutoring his son. I really need to up my game here because I have a whole extra day now that I don’t have Friday classes. I’ve been making excuses for myself. I need to get my sh** together.

//Use My Planner Everyday

I used my planner all last semester but fell out of the habit last month. I need to start using it again because it gives me peace of mind.

//January  Recap//

//Started My Second Semester

I have classes from Monday through Thursday this semester, which is nice. I need to become more productive on weekends, though. I’ve been using the extra day to procrastinate on school work.

//Went To The Women’s March

This is a huge reason why I haven’t been blogging. I’ve been going back and forth about publishing a post I wrote about this and couldn’t decide. My dad said it was probably a bad idea because we’re from a Muslim country, which actually makes a lot of sense, but it makes me feel like I’ve lost some of my freedom of speech. I can’t be as candid as I want to be politics because of the color of my skin. That’s a conversation for another post (Probably in 2021), so I just want to say that it was amazing and I’m glad I went.

I read a quote on Facebook that said, “Remember when you were in your U.S History class and thought to yourself ‘If I were there, this is what I’d do.’ What you’re doing now is what you would’ve done then.” I’m glad I went to the Women’s March because I did something. I wasn’t just complaining about politics from the sidelines or giving death threats on YouTube (Seriously! People these days!). If you didn’t go or haven’t called a representative or donating your time or money, you’re not doing much. There is still time for you to make yourself proud.

//Joined the Clever Girls Collective

I joined The InfluenceHer Collective in December and Clever last month. I am very proud of that accomplishment. I got in on my first try. A lot of really good bloggers have said they had to apply multiple times to get in, so I’m very proud. I’ll go more into blogging networks in my 9-month update,  so stay tuned!

//Series Of Unfortunate Events

This seems like a worthy thing to talk about because I had been waiting for this show for a while. I reread the first four books before the series came out on Netflix. I’m glad I did because I forgot a lot (It has been 9 years, after all). I also think reading the books made me enjoy it more because I saw all the things they got right.

I’ve seen mixed reviews about this show. The people who have read this series love it and people who haven’t or have forgotten everything are pretty meh about it. This is probably because it’s based on a chapter book for children. I think Netflix did it perfectly and Neil Patrick Harris is hilarious, but I don’t think non-book-readers can appreciate it as much. Needless to say, I watched it the day it came out (Friday the 13th) and enjoyed every second of it. I’d be willing to watch it again. Can’t wait for Season 2!

Well,  I guess that’s all I have to say for now. Until next time!
