Hello, everybody! I’m back with another monthly favorites post which contains books I’ve read, movies I’ve watched, songs that have been stuck in my head, etc. I hope you enjoy.

//Books

The Upside Of Unrequited by Becky Albertalli – I’ve been meaning to read this book ever since I read Simon vs. The Homosapien Agenda. It’s really good, but I liked Simon better. It was an adorable story, but I’m not that into adorable. It’s written in the point of view of Molly who has experienced unrequited love quite a number of times (26 to be exact). She starts seeing her relationship with her twin sister Cassie change when she gets a girlfriend. There are other plotlines too, like her moms getting married and her falling in love, but the core of the story is her relationship with her sister and how things are changing between them now that they’re older.

Turtles All The Way Down by John Green – I’m not done with this book yet, but I really like it. It took me awhile to get into it, though. I’ll give you my full review next month when I’m done. All I’ll say is that this doesn’t feel like a John Green book. I’ve read almost all of his books, but I wouldn’t be able to tell that he wrote this one if I wasn’t told. One of my complaints is that he doesn’t separate the character from the disease. I get that the OCD is a part of her, but there needs to be some sort of separation. I don’t really think that’s the big problem. I think it’s more about the character herself. Asa doesn’t stand out at all. I sometimes forget that she’s a girl. There is nothing defining her character outside her OCD. Hopefully, this will change soon. There have been a few “What!? I didn’t see that coming!” moments, that have been awesome, but I don’t feel very connected to any of the characters.

 The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins – So last week, I pulled a muscle in my back and was a little sick as well, so I got pretty lazy. I went home early from school on Tuesday because I was in so much pain and laid in bed. I got an email that a Fanfiction I followed was updated after 2 YEARS. I couldn’t even remember the story, so I reread it and it was awesome. This prompted me to reread The Hunger Games because I haven’t reread it in a few years (the movies really turned them off for me). They are still really good. I remember why they’re one of my favorite books.

Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins – I read this up until when they start training before I went back to reading Turtles All The Way Down. It’s still very good. Rereading the books makes me dislike the movies more because they are SO GOOD.

//Movies

Halloween Movies – Is there anything else to watch in October? I wrote a post on my favorite Halloween movies earlier last month. Here’s the link.

//T.V. Shows

The Good Doctor – This show is SOOO good. The first episode made me so angry and so sad. I thought I would hate it. It’s about a surgeon with autism. I hate it when T.V. shows and movies show people with autism as superior beings who can do all. I wish they were portrayed as regular people. I also wish that the media portrayed children with autism are lower functioning to show it realistically, but that’s a rant for another time.

I love the character, Shaun. Freddie Highmore is such an amazing actor. I think he’s the only reason I keep watching the show. I don’t connect with most of the surgeries. Grey’s Anatomy is really good at making you fall in love with a patient and feel heartbroken about their death in just one episode, but The Good Doctor isn’t. It’s written by the same guy who made House, which I’ve never seen but is very well regarded. It’s based on a Korean drama by the same name. I watched the first episode of the Korean version and saw that the doctor was much lower functioning than Shaun, which I liked, but I guess they had to make this show realistic in regards to employing people with autism in America.

Big Mouth – I thought this show was gonna be hella stupid. I couldn’t get behind the animation and the trailer was terrible. I watched the first episode out of curiosity and actually really liked it. It’s very smart and I don’t think most people are intelligent enough to get it, but take my word for it: it’s smart. Very sex positive. I think it describes the confusions of preteens really well. You just have to get past a lot of cringy moments.

The Good Place – This show is about a woman who dies. She was supposed to go to Hell but is accidentally sent to Heaven and she does everything she can to prevent getting found out. This show really makes you think. I thought it would get boring after the first season, but there is an amazing twist at the end that makes the show even better. I like Season 2 even more than Season 1.

How I Met Your Mother – I know not a lot of people agree, but I prefer HIMYM over Friends. I just think it’s more interesting. I was rewatching this throughout the month because I don’t like binge-watching shows during the school year. Last week, I found out that Netflix is getting rid of it this November because Hulu just bought it. Now, I’m attempting to finish the show again before it leaves Netflix.

The Goldbergs – Out of all the ABC fall premiers, this one has got to be my favorite. I’m also really happy that Rowan Blanchard has a more recurring role in the show (I was obsessed with Girl Meets World). It’s hilarious and there are so many references to old movies that I love.

Crazy Ex-Girlfriend – This show was definitely the biggest surprise. Every time I think it’s going to suck, it surprises me. We’re only four episodes into the season and I can’t imagine how many more “oh sh*t” moments there can be. It’s nuts. I’m actually liking it more than Jane The Virgin right now.

//Live Shows

Rocky Horror Picture Show – A friend and I went up to Athens Georgia to visit another friend that goes to UGA. I first heard of Rocky Horror Picture Show when I read Perks Of Being A Wallflower. I understand the references now. I went on YouTube to rewatch clips from the movie. The only way I can describe this show is this: It’s the closest thing to a sex show I’ve ever been to. After the show, my friends and I headed back to her apartment (where we slept over) and watched Corpse Bride. It was awesome.

//Music

Perfect by Ed Sheeran – This is definitely the song I listened to the most this month. The lyrics are beautiful.

Praying by Kesha  – I loved this song the first time I heard it when it came out, but this is the first month I listened to it on repeat and sung it in the shower. I prefer the live performance over the music video, which is what  I linked above.

Love Me Now (KHS Cover) – I’ve basically been obsessed with Kurt Hugo Schneider covers, in general, this month, but this song is one of my favorites. I also listened to the original one a bunch of times after hearing it in a restaurant when I was out with my friends.

Piece By Piece (KHS Cover) – I had never heard this song before. It’s pretty old, but I fell in love with this cover the second I heard it.

//Beauty

(This isn’t a topic I usually put in my Monthly Favorites posts, but I have some stuff to put here)

No Heat Curls – These have been great because I’m lazy and can’t find my curling iron. I’m very low maintenance when it comes to my appearance. (I seldom wear makeup and haven’t gotten my eyebrows done since my high school graduation.) I have short hair, so there is very little I can do with it right now aside from putting it in a ponytail. I looked up no-heat curls on YouTube and have done it a few times (I just have to pin my hair up in a certain way after taking a shower and sleep in it). I’m not sure how I feel about them yet. I like that it’s something different, but it’s touch and go on whether it looks good or not.

Long-Sleeved Shirts – The Fall and Winter clothes are coming out of hibernation. It wasn’t that cold last winter down here in Georgia until the end of December, so there wasn’t much reason to wear warm clothing, but it’s actually been chilly in the last few weeks, so I’ve been able to wear long sleeves. It’s been so nice.

//Priceless

Accomplishing New Years Resolutions – This is the first month this year that I feel like I’ve been following my word of the year. It’s a great feeling. I’ve been so productive this month and my life was so balanced. Hopefully, I’ll be able to keep this up for the remainder of the year, but I’m not sure how that’ll go considering I’ll be traveling a lot. Staying in a routine is going to be tough. (More on this in my next post)

Chilly Fall Weather – As I mentioned before, it finally started to get chilly here down here in Georgia. It’s starting to get warm again right now in the beginning of November, but I was able to wear sweaters and boots a lot more in the month of October. It was great. The weather was perfect. Fall is easily my favorite season.

Hangouts With Friends – I did a lot of fun stuff with my friends this month. I went to Pride for the first time, I slept over at my friend’s apartment, watched the Rocky Horror Picture Show, went out to lunch with people…it was fun. I did a lot of socializing which balanced out all the time I spent working.

That’s it for now. I’ll see you guys on Monday. I’m sorry for the late upload.
