A Day In The Life Of A College Junior

Hello, lovelies! I am OFFICIALLY done with my Junior year of college. At least at the time you’re reading this. I’ve been traveling through Europe this month, which is why I’m scheduling out as many blog posts as I can early. If my editorial calendar is correct, I am currently in Italy traveling from Florence to Rome. I’m not planning on updating the blog while I’m there, but I may slip in a few travel diaries. There will be lots of travel content for you all when I get back, but follow me on Instagram if you want to follow me through thirteen countries in real time.

Anyway, I’ve written a “day in my life” for the last two years of college, but this one is a bit different. In my first two years of college, I commuted from home, but this year was my first year living in a dorm.

Each day during the week is a bit different, so this post will chronicle a typical Tuesday during the Spring semester of my Junior year. I hope you enjoy.

(P.S. Sorry if the tenses change during the blog post. I’m writing this while I’m still in school, but you all will see it after I’m done)

8:30 AM// Wake Up

My class on Tuesday starts at 11:00, so I’m able to sleep in a bit more than I do on other days. My roommate also has work in the morning, so she needs to use the bathroom earlier than I do. I don’t usually get out of bed until she leaves, at around 8:45.

9:00  am// Get Ready

During the last few weeks of school, I was waking up on my own at around 7:45, but I didn’t get out of bed. There was no real need to and I just read on my Kindle (which is always on my bed in the mornings because I fall asleep reading it)

Normally, I get out of bed at 9:00 when my alarm clock rings. I like having time to lounge in bed in the mornings rather than getting ready immediately after I wake up (which is why my first alarm is at 8:30).

My getting ready routine is pretty standard. I brush my teeth, wash my face, change my clothes, etc. I pretty much pack lunch every day. I don’t have a meal plan and my mom sends food with me every week so that I don’t have to worry about it. I just heat it up in the microwave while I get ready and pack my bag.

10:00 AM// Leave Dorm

Tuesday is the only day I have the morning to myself. My roommate wakes up after me on all the other days of the week, so I usually leave the room within 30 minutes. On Tuesdays, I sit at my desk, eat breakfast and slowly enjoy my meal. I leave my dorm at around 10:00 (10:15 at the lastest) to take the bus to class. I read every day on the bus, either a physical book or an audiobook. If I arrive to the class early, I sit and talk to my friends in there or I hang out in a coffee shop area in the building.

11:00 AM – 1:45 PM// Cognitive Science & Cultural Anthropology Class

I have two back to back classes Tuesday morning: Cognitive Science & Cultural Anthropology. Both of them take place in the same room, but I leave after my first class to stretch my legs because I can’t handle sitting in the same spot for two and a half hours.

~12:15 PM// Lunch

When I plan on going to the gym in after both classes, I quickly eat lunch in the 15-minute period between them. I don’t eat a big breakfast (usually just a banana and a smoothie), so my stomach isn’t too full for lunch.

1:45 PM// Head To Gym

On this particular day I’m describing, my friend Julia from my Cultural Anthropology class and I go to the gym. I say on this day because sometimes she can’t go and sometimes I can’t, so there have been plenty of days where we’ve missed each other or I go to the small gym next to my dorm after my last class.

The recreation center (or the biggest gym on campus) is near the building my last class is located, which is why I have time to work out in between my classes. Julia and I usually just talk and take the bus there on the days we go together.

2:00 PM// Work Out

I wrote about my current work out routine post back injury here. It hasn’t really changed much since then. That post shows the workout routine I do in the small gym next to my dorm, but it’s not super different from the one I do at the recreation center.

3:00 PM// Walk To My Next Class & Read

After changing out of my workout clothes, I say bye to Julia and start walking to class. When the weather is bad, I take the bus because it’s just one stop away. Otherwise, I walk.

I usually get to class at 3:15. I don’t wait in the classroom. I sit at a sitting area nearby and read my book for 15 minutes because I don’t like staying inside stuffy classrooms more than I have to (Unless I have friends to talk to inside)

3:30 PM// Special Education Class

This is one of my favorite classes and I’m pretty sure it’ll be my highest grade at the end of the semester (I’m writing this post a few weeks in advance). It goes by pretty quickly, but I’m tired by the end of the day.

4:45 PM// Head Back To Dorm

Once class is over, I walk to a bus stop. If I went to the bus stop in front of the building, I have to take two different buses to get back to my dorm. I’d rather just walk to the farther one and get picked up by one bus. I end up getting home faster that way.

After getting back to my dorm, I immediately make my bed. It makes my room look cleaner instantly. My roommate and I get back at around the same time, so we usually chat for a bit before I take a shower.

6:00 PM//Rest

After taking a shower, I rest and relax for 45 minutes before driving to a club meeting. Normally, this means eating a snack and laying in bed watching YouTube videos or an episode of something on Netflix.

7:00 PM// Club Meeting

I’m a part of UGA’s Her Campus, and we have meetings every Tuesday evening. If you haven’t heard of Her Campus, it’s an online magazine featuring articles by college students. The meetings are pretty quick. We just pitch our article ideas then talk for the rest of the meeting. You can read the articles I’ve written so far here.

8:00 PM// Dinner

After driving back from the meeting, I heat up dinner. It’s usually a rice or pasta dish with meat and vegetables.

Once my food was ready, I’d watch Good Trouble on the Freeform website because the episode would premiere online at 8:00. After the season ended, I’d watch The Bold Type.

9:00 PM// Hang Out With Stellah

My friend Stellah and I had a routine of seeing each other on Tuesdays and Thursdays as long as we finished our school work. Some weeks we’d only get together once, and others we’d meet up three times. For the majority of the semester, we’d meet up 2-3 times per week and talk for hours.

Tuesdays were my days to go to her apartment (she’d come to my dorm on Thursdays) and we’d end up talking till the middle of the night. We had no self-control! There were a few times we’d legit set up timers to make sure we got up within an hour and a half, but that almost never happened.

She’s graduating in two days so we won’t be able to do this anymore :'(

11:30 PM// Head Back Home

Normally, I’d head back 11:30, so that I would be ready to go to bed by midnight, but there were plenty of days I stayed longer than that. I remember one night, Stellah, her roommate and I talked until 2:00 AM before realizing how late it was. We honestly had enough energy to stay up longer, but it was a Tuesday.

12:00 AM// Go To Sleep

After getting back to my dorm, I’d do my regular evening routine. I’d change into pajamas, brush my teeth, fill up my water bottle, set out clothes for the next day, etc. After getting done with that, I would turn off the lights and my roommate would turn on her lamp if she was still awake, and I’d read my Kindle until I fell asleep (usually by 1:00 AM)

Tuesdays are my busy days, which is why I don’t plan a lot of study time unless I h0ave an exam on Wednesday. My classes finish by noon on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, so I finish the majority of my homework and studying on those days. Very rarely do I have leftover assignments to do on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
