Dorm Room Tour

Hey, guys! I’m back with another blog post. (I bet you didn’t expect me to update this quickly, right?)

Today, I am sharing a dorm room tour. I set up and decorated my room pretty quickly because I didn’t want to worry about it in the middle of the school year. I also wanted to enjoy living there as much as I can. The reason that it’s taken me so long to post a dorm tour is that I don’t bring my camera to campus very often and it’s been a very cloudy/rainy few months.

Because of this, there is a bit of continuity error. You’ll notice that sometimes my calendar will say “October” and other times, it’ll say “December.” This is because those were the two separate occasions where I took pictures for this blog post. Don’t mind that.

Let’s get into the tour. I didn’t edit the photos or try to make them perfect because I would never have ended up posting this. I hope you enjoy.

When you enter the room (door on the left), my roommate’s bed and my bed are against the wall on the right. When you enter, our closet is on the left. It doesn’t have a door, but it’s a pretty big closet. We have more than enough space. The wall next to the closet has a full-length mirror. The door at the right of the photo opens to the hallway between our and our suite-mates’ room. The bathroom is also through there.

In the above photo, you can see my side of the closet. I keep three baskets at the top: one for bras, one for socks, and one for underwear. The empty space next to it is where I keep my scarves and caps. I usually just dump them there. On the floor, you can see my laundry hamper and some of my shoes.

To the left, there is the mirror and bathroom door again.

This is just an overview of my side of the room. It’s all the way at the end near the windows. When I moved in, my mom put my pillow away from the windows because the air conditioner is right there and she didn’t want me to get cold. She was right. That side of the room is significantly colder (and warmer now that we turn on the heater). I actually used my winter blanket near the beginning of the year because of the AC, and now I don’t use it at all because it gets so hot.

There’s a ledge in front of the windows, which span the whole wall, so I put a lot of stuff there. Since there isn’t a wall in front of my desk, I lean my bulletin board on the window. I use a Spiderman mug as a pencil cup because while shopping for dorm supplies with my brother, I saw that actual pencil cups for desks were more expensive than mugs, so we just bought a regular mug from the kitchenware section. (Spiderman has been my favorite superhero since I was a kid)

On the ledge, there is usually a roll of paper towels, my alarm clock, bulletin board, kleenex box, a Winnie-The-Pooh pencil case, and a little box of paper clips and office supplies. My Brita Filter is usually at the end in front of my dresser.

On top of my desk, I only keep a lamp, and a pencil cup, and a photo of my family. I like keeping the surface clear for me to work.

On the left of my desk, I keep my trash can. The only decor on that part of the wall is a clock and a dream-catcher that I brought from my childhood bedroom. Since that wall is textured, it was hard to hang things up. The clock is in one of my drawers now because it kept falling down, which is a bummer since it looked so nice.

This is my bed. I printed the photos on the wall at Wal-Mart and framed them with different patterns of washi tape. I think it turned out well. I usually keep a throw blanket at the edge so that I don’t have to mess up my made bed whenever I feel cold.

You can see my book-light attached to the bed frame on the left.

My bed is lofted so that my fridge can fit under it. Since I don’t have a meal plan, I bring food from home. The area under my bed is basically my kitchen, even though we already have a kitchen. Keeping everything I need in the dorm room makes my life easier.

My nightstand/dresser is in between my desk and my bed. On top of the nightstand, I keep a mirror, a framed photo, and whatever books I’m reading or plan on reading that week.

The drawers aren’t pictured, but here’s what I keep in them. The top drawer contains my toiletries, medicine bag, makeup, etc. The second drawer contains jeans, pajamas, and workout clothes. The bottom drawer has extra towels, extra toiletries, and cleaning supplies.

There are also four drawers in my desk. The top three contain school supplies and papers. The bottom one has all my kitchen essentials: pots, pans, knives, cutting board, etc. I didn’t need to use the extra storage box under my bed because I had so much drawer space.

This is the wall in front of my bed above my roommate’s desk. It was blank for about a month, so I asked her if I could decorate it because I like doing that type of stuff. She said it’s fine because she likes decor but doesn’t really know how to go about it. I looked some stuff up on Pinterest and she loved this flower idea, so we spent twenty minutes taping up dollar store flowers on the wall. I think it turned out great and she absolutely loves it.

(Her name starts with an “S” which is why we chose that design)

So…that’s my dorm room. I am not one of those typical bloggers who like the minimalist, “all white and plants” look. I need color. I absolutely love how it all turned out and I didn’t need to spend much money in order to pull it all together. I think I spent less than $15 on decorating my room. I brought most of the stuff from home.

I hope you guys enjoyed, and I’ll see you next time.
