My November Goals & October Reflection | 2020

Hello, lovelies! I know it’s well past the the beginning of November, but I haven’t posted my goals yet. I’ve completed a bunch of them already, so I guess you’ll get to read about my mid-month progress. So much happened in October that I didn’t blog at all, but I’m okay with it because it was a busy month.

//How I Did In October//

  • Get Ahead On Big Grad School Assignments – Kind of. Midterm season was very busy, but I managed to get all my work done.
  • Do Something For Halloween – Complete! My best friends and I ended up having a socially distanced Halloween “party” in someone’s backyard and it was the most fun I’ve had in months. I dressed up as Ben 10. I even decorated my mask.

  • Organize Closet– I didn’t even attempt this.
  • Vote! – Complete. Long story short, my absentee ballot ripped, so I had to cancel it and vote in person. The first day I went, the line was really long, so I decided to go home. I went the next morning on a weekday and the entire process took 15-minutes. Everyone else in my house voted by mail and we double checked online that they were counted. I’ve already ordered our absentee ballots for the Senate runoff, so if you live in Georgia, please vote in that. The fate of our country literally depends on it. (Registration Deadline: December 7, 2020; Early Voting Starts December 14, 2020; Runoff Election January 5, 2021)
  • Renew Driver’s License – Complete. I officially have an over 21 driver’s license. In Georgia, underage licenses are vertical and over 21 licenses are horizontal, so that was a random milestone this month. I didn’t want to pay to upgrade it two years ago, so I just waited for the expiration date (on my birthday). I was able to do the entire thing online and they just used the same photo from when I was eighteen.
  • Read 7 Books – (5.5/7) I fell out of my reading every day habit in October, so this is incomplete. I did start a sixth book, but I’m gonna count it towards November.
  • Spend More Quality Time With My Family – Complete. I did spend more quality time with my family last month.
  • Stay Ahead On Blog Posts – Nope. I literally published three blog posts last month.
  • Halloween Movie Marathon – Surprisingly, I didn’t watch a single Halloween movie in October. I think I watched the first half of The Nightmare Before Christmas but never finished it. I also planned on reading a horror novel in October, but that didn’t pan out either.
  • Work Out 5 Days Per Week – Complete. This was the only habit I consistently kept up with last month. For most of the year, I’ve been keeping up with my habits like reading every day, journaling, painting each week, etc. but I fell off the wagon with those in October. Working out was honestly my favorite break from school and work. I looked forward to it every day, which is why I kept up with it.

//My November Goals//

//Register For Classes

I make this task unnecessarily stressful every semester. I almost always procrastinate on this, so I’m surprised that I ended up registering for classes at the beginning of the month.

//Complete Sexual Assault Prevention Thing For School

I didn’t know that I had to do this again. If you don’t know, when you start college, you have to do a tedious alcohol EDU and a sexual assault prevention course module thing. I had to do these things twice because I transferred universities. Anyway, apparently you have to complete this course every time you start a new program because I got an email in October telling me that I had passed the deadline. It was no big deal. I just had to finish it before I could register for classes, so I did it earlier this month. Literally no one told me about it. I guess it got lost in the emails. They don’t make you do the alcohol one for grad school because we’re not underage anymore.

//Complete 2021 Powersheets Prep

I got my Powersheets Goal Planner for next year and I want to finish the prep work this  month so that I can break down my goals in December. I feel very weird about 2021. I’m still considering the pros and cons about starting my career, especially since I’d likely work in a hospital or clinic setting. I’m just stressing about safety and finances and am figuring out how often I’d need to get tested and and deciding if I should I move out when I get a job for my family’s safety. Lots of stuff think about. I also don’t know what I want to do outside of that. I’m still in grad school, but until I feel safe enough to start working and get a job, there’s not much I can do in terms of financial goals or getting an apartment. I haven’t sorted out my health or reading goals yet either.

//Organize Closet

Yeah, I haven’t done this yet. I’ll do it over Thanksgiving Break.

//Finish Avatar With Stellah

Oh my god. Guys. We finally finished it. This was over a year in the making. We started the show in August 2019 and would’ve finished by April if it weren’t for quarantine. Stellah and I watched it sporadically over the last few months on her balcony on a laptop. It’s taken us awhile to sort these meetups out. We watched the penultimate episode at the beginning of October, and I thought we’d be able to finish it last month, but we ended up taking a month to make plans. We finished the show last weekend and it was awesome. Watching her reactions has been a been a pleasure.

I wrote episode rankings for seasons 1 & 2 last year as we watched the show. I haven’t written one for season 3 yet, but those blog posts should come out in early 2021 (Maybe December depending on how long it takes me to write my other end of the year blog posts).

//Finish Half Of All Final Projects

I only have one final exam in December. The rest of my final grades are based on big projects. I want to finish at least three in November so that I am not completely overwhelmed by the end of the semester. I’ve already completed one. I’m almost done with the second one and plan on completing the third one over Thanksgiving Break.

//Read 5 Books

This is doable considering my schedule and my lack of motivation to pick up books. I also have five graphic novels that should be quick reads. I’m listening to a really great audiobook right now. I think it’ll make it on my favorite book list for 2020.

//October Reflection//

October was a stressful month, but in a sort of background anxiety sort of way. The election and supreme court hearings were weighing on my mind the entire time. My mom told me the other day that it feels like a weight has been lifted off her shoulders now that Biden has won, and I couldn’t agree more. Exercise was the only habit I consistently kept up with in October because it kept my mood up. It was also midterm season, so I was busy with school. I enjoyed as many breaks throughout the day as I could.

My family broke quarantine for the first time since March. A family member passed away last month and we went to my cousins’ house to support them. I hugged my cousins for the first time since February. That was bittersweet. None of us got sick thankfully, but we couldn’t not go. It was definitely worth it to break quarantine.

I also worked quite a bit in October, which was great. I was “funemployed” for a good chunk of quarantine, so having some income was a relief. Like I said before, school work started piling up and I was busy with that. I watched some great movies and shows and read some good books. Just typical quarantine things.

The main fun thing that happened was the socially distanced Halloween party I threw with my best friends. Though, to be honest, we get closer and closer to each other every time we meet up (we wear masks of course). We were so on top of it in June, and now I keep thinking that when we hit the one year mark in March, we’ll rip our masks off and lay on top of each other ?. The weather is still great in Georgia, so having outdoor get-togethers is till a possibility. We haven’t done it very often though. This was only our third time meeting up. We typically stick to our weekly Zoom calls, but we somehow managed to plan another get together in November for my birthday 🙂 (It’s getting cold though).

We dressed up. We ate candy. We talked for five straight hours (2:30-7:30 PM). Another perk of living in the south is that it isn’t dark by 5 PM. It was a really nice day. It was genuinely the most fun I’ve had in quarantine.

Well, that’s it for now. I’ll try to write some things before the next goals post, but it is finals season, so no promises. Please stay safe this Thanksgiving. We are going to do Thanksgiving outside this year with just our cousins (with masks and social distancing.) Please follow CDC guidelines. Wear masks, do it outside, keep the windows open, or just order takeout with your family. I know it sucks, but we’ll get through it.
