A Typical Day In My Life | Summer Internship Edition

My life really isn’t that glamorous. I’ve been writing a lot about travel recently because I took a month-long trip to Europe in May and have a lot of blog posts lined up about that. But the thing is that the rest of my summer hasn’t been that exciting. I work Monday through Friday (the day this post is going live is actually the last day of my summer vacation), so life has been pretty routine. To document this period in my life, and to show you all that my life isn’t as fancy as it looks, I’m sharing a day in my life during my last college summer.

(My days aren’t exactly the same every day, so today I’m writing about a day where I don’t have work, and have an 11:30-3:15 shift at my internship, which was my shift for the majority of the summer)

8:30 AM // Wake Up & Get Ready

I usually wake up at around 8:00, then get out of bed at 8:30 AM when my alarm goes off. I brush my teeth and get ready almost immediately after waking up. If I stay in my pajamas, I’ll just go back to bed.

9:00 AM // Eat Breakfast

After getting completely ready for the day, I either make myself breakfast or my mom makes it for me (Only when I wake up at 10:00). My go-to breakfast this summer has been an omelet, a banana, and a smoothie (This is genuinely the only fully healthy meal I have all day.)

9:30 AM // Hang Out With Family, Relax, Blog

My mornings have been super productive this summer because I’m so exhausted when I get home from work. The majority of my blogging this summer has been done at either this time or at around 11 PM (like right now!). I also play with my brother at this time.

10:50 AM // Get Ready To Leave

I strive to leave the house by 11, but I learned that if I start getting ready to leave at that time, I end up leaving at around 11:05-ish. When I set an alarm to get ready to leave at 10:50, I’d be in my car before 11 without any rush.

At this time, I would pack lunch, dig around my closet looking for socks, and say goodbye to the seven family members in my house.

11:00 AM – 11:20 AM // Drive To Work

My morning drive is usually around 23 minutes because it’s after traffic time. (When I have the 9:15 shift, I leave the house at 8:30 to make it on time). I almost always listen to audiobooks because it makes the drive so much more entertaining. This majorly contributes to my “100 books in a year” goal for 2019.

11:30 AM – 3:15 PM // Internship

I’ve been interning at Marcus Autism Center this summer doing their undergrad ABA program. I’m on my feet for most of the day and I love working with the kids. This internship has honestly solidified what I want to do with my life. It’s been amazing and exhausting and incredibly educational.

3:20 PM – 3:55 // Head Home

My drive home is a bit longer, but it’s fine. I usually just eat and listen to an audiobook.

3:50 PM – 5:30 PM // Relax Or Take A Nap

I’ve recently become a person who takes naps. This worried me a lot because I would be so exhausted when I got home and I couldn’t imagine how I would feel in the future when I work till five. When I started doing the longer shifts, I noticed that I felt significantly less tired. That’s when I realized that the reason I’m so tired during the shorter shift is that I don’t get any breaks on those days. Anyway, I usually fall asleep half the times I relax after work. When I don’t nap, I go to the gym.

5:30 PM // Drive To Gym

When I don’t take a nap, I head to the gym at 5:30 to take one of the 5:45 classes. My drive to the gym is only 9-minutes without traffic, but it takes 15 minutes at this time of day.

5:45 PM – 6:45 PM // Gym

During the week, I usually take Zumba classes and take the weightlifting classes during the weekends, when I manage to go. I do go to the gym more than most, but I haven’t been going as much as I used to this summer.

7:00 PM // Drive Back Home & Take A Shower

I get home by 7:00 after working out at the gym and immediately take a shower.

7:30 PM // Dinner

After I shower, I get dressed and eat dinner. We’re not really a sit-around-the-table-and-eat-together family. We only really do that during Ramadan, so it’s usually just Zidan and me eating together at the table if we eat at the same time.

8:30 PM- 12:00 AM// Chill, Run Errands, Blog, Read, Etc.

The rest of the night depends on the day. Sometimes I run errands with my mom. Other nights, I watch T.V or YouTube. My schedule is pretty lax at this time, but I blog when I want to be productive.

12:00 AM // Get Ready To Sleep

I always start getting ready for bed at midnight in an attempt to get enough sleep every night. I brush my teeth, wash my face, and say goodnight to everyone.

12:30 AM – 2:00 AM // Read Until I Fall Asleep

I’ve kind of been in a cycle where I can’t fall asleep until 2:00 AM. This is partly because of the naps and partially because I was sleeping pretty restlessly for the majority of this summer. It’s gotten better now. Anyway, I usually read Fanfiction or WattPad on my Kindle until I fall asleep (with the blue light filter on so that the light doesn’t keep me awake)

That’s pretty much what a typical day was for me this summer. It was nothing like last summer, where I didn’t blog for a month and a half because I was having so much fun and had no routine what-so-ever. But that’s fine. This summer was great too.

Also, I’ve been having the worst acne of my life these past few months. It flares up every summer, but it has never been this bad. I swear, I’m going to be one of those people with adult acne. Watch it happen.
