My Social Isolation Bucket List | Fun & Productive Things To Do While Stuck At Home

Hello, lovelies! I was texting with my cousin in Bangladesh the other day, and when she told me about a movie, I said, “I’ll add that to my quarantine list.” She replied in all caps, “I HAVE A QUARANTINE LIST, TOO!” We both had made a list of productive things and fun things to do while we’re at home and we sent each other pictures of our lists.

I thought, this would be a great blog post idea, which is why I moved my Switzerland blog post to next week. My family is in full-on self-isolation mode now that I’ve moved out of my dorm, so I thought this would be a fun and relevant thing to read right now. I hope you enjoy.

  • Have A Binge-Watching Day – I haven’t been able to find a show to binge-watch the past few weeks. I started This Is Us but haven’t finished the first season yet. I’ll probably finish it slowly over time. I’ve been doing other things for the last few days, but I want to pick a day where I do absolutely nothing but watch T.V. Two of my cousins have told me to watch The Witcher so I’ll probably start with that since there are only eight episodes.
  • Learn To Draw – My dad bought a “basics of drawing” book years ago from Goodwill, and it’s been sitting on a bookshelf downstairs since then. I have time now, so I brought it upstairs to go through. I guess technically everyone knows how to draw in some way, but it would be fun to learn it properly as a fun hobby. I’ve already gone through the lines chapter and am getting started on geometric shapes. I learned it already in middle school art class, but it’ll get more advanced as I go through the book.
  • Get Ahead On Blog Posts – This is what I’m currently doing. Unfortunately, I’m falling into the pattern of scheduling two blog posts per week instead of one, so I’m not getting as ahead I could potentially. It’s more content for you all, I guess.
  • Apply For Jobs – By the time you read this, I will have applied to two jobs. One of my cousins (well, close family friend, technically) told me that as a general rule of thumb, she’d apply to one job per week. I think I’ll start doing that so that it doesn’t become too overwhelming.
  • Unpack And Organize Room – I moved out of my dorm room last week and all my stuff is still in the garage. My original plan was to unpack immediately, but my dad said to leave everything in the garage for a few days, just in case. This has given me permission to procrastinate on it even more. I plan on unpacking everything at some point this week, and my brother Zidan will probably take some of the stuff for when he starts college next year.
  • Paint With Water Colors – I bought a bunch of watercolor paints from Amazon during Spring Break and they arrived yesterday. (Prime no longer takes two days 🙁 )
  • Make A Collage Bullet Journal Spread – I’ve been using a spiral notebook as my planner for the last two years and decided to try a proper bullet journal once I graduate. I’ve realized that I don’t really like the dotted pages and will probably get a lined notebook once I finish this one. I liked that I didn’t feel the need to be neat when I used my other notebook, but I do feel the need for my bullet journal. I’m making the most of it since I don’t want to waste a perfectly good notebook, so I’ve been watching fun art journal spreads on YouTube. It should be a fun way to pass the time.
  • Fix Sleep Schedule – My internal clock has been completely skewed by this break. I had been waking up at noon and wouldn’t be able to fall asleep before 4 AM. Even when I did wake up at 9, I wouldn’t feel sleepy until super late at night. I’d go to bed at 11 and couldn’t fall asleep. This is partly because I’ve been waking up late, but it’s mainly because I’m not tired by the end of the day. I’m not walking everywhere, or going to class, or working out. I have been being productive, but I’m not tired out by the end of the day. I’m slowly getting this back on track. My goal is to wake up at 10 every morning. (I still want to enjoy the perks of not having morning classes 🙂 )
  • Do A Puzzle – We have exactly one big puzzle in this house and I have completed it multiple times before. I’ll do it again at some point and I’m sure there are more puzzles lying around the house since Mysoon used to love them.
  • Catch Up On Classics List – I’ve fallen behind on the classic book list I made at the beginning of the year. I’ll probably have to read some of them out of order now that I don’t have access to the library, but I own a few of the books on the list and can get some audiobooks for free online.
  • Reread And Edit 2018 Blog Posts – Remember back when I kept setting the goal of rereading my old blog posts? I edited the majority of my 2016 and 2017 blog posts, but I never went through my 2018 blog posts. I have time to do that now.
  • Do A Sudoku – I love sudokus, but I haven’t done one in a long time. I’ll probably just find one online then draw it out on a sheet of paper to not waste printer ink.
  • Create An At-Home Workout Routine – I’m really bad about working out at home because I’m used to working out at the gym. I’m going to be at my house for the foreseeable future, so I’ve gotta create a routine I’ll stick to.
  • Watch All The Harry Potter Movies – I’m currently rereading the Harry Potter series for the third time. Prior to college, the only time I had read the series was the first time when I was 11, then reread it again when I was 20. I haven’t watched the movies in their entirety in a long time either. Just bits and pieces during Freeform’s Harry Potter weekends. I’ve already scheduled them to be recorded on my DVR, so I should have access to them soon. I may do a movie ranking along with the book ranking.
  • Study For The GRE – I was planning on taking the GRE within the next few months anyway, even though I was planning on starting a job. I just wanted to get it over with so that I wouldn’t have to worry about it later. Depending on how long this lasts, I may end up applying to and going to graduate school online. Thankfully, due to the pandemic, you can take the GRE online now, so I won’t have to leave the house to take the test.
  • Bake Cookies – I like baking cookies and I haven’t done so in a while. I also thought about trying to bake a pie because I’ve never baked one before, but I don’t think we have all the ingredients.
  • Adult Coloring Books – I have two of them. Both were birthday gifts and there are still many pages left for me to use to pass the time.
  • No Spend Month – I’ve never done one because I don’t spend that much money anyway, and I like buying coffee once a week or going to the movies, so long as I don’t overdo it. This is the perfect time to do one since we’re not leaving the house and it’ll motivate me to stop buying things online.
  • Book Club With Zidan – My brother and I are reading a book together. He reads two chapters then gives me the book to read two chapters, and we discuss what we’ve read.
  • Read “A House At Pooh Corner” To Mysoon – I own both of the original Winnie the Pooh books. Each chapter is a short story, so I plan on reading one chapter to him per day.
  • Finish “The Raven Cycle” Series – I’m listening to the series via audiobook, which I’d normally get through very quickly, but I haven’t been listening to them because I’m not driving or going anywhere. I’m in the middle of the third book and want to finish the series by the end of March.
  • Add Advertisements To Blog – Still haven’t done this. I always go back and forth on adding them to the blog, but I think I should now.
  • Spa Day– This may actually be the hardest one on the list because I don’t have anything to do one, and it’s not like I’m going to Walmart to buy a $2 face mask. And I couldn’t spend a whole day pampering myself, anyway. Maybe an hour and a half?
  • Finish College Smash Book – A smash book is like a scrapbook journal. Now that I’m not going back to college and classes are all online, I can start printing out photos and finishing it.
  • Practice Sign Language – I started learning sign language when I was fourteen and also took it as my language requirement in college. I’m currently at an intermediate level, but eventually, I’d like to be fluent.

Well, that’s it for now. Things have been fine so far. We’ve gone outside a few times to take walks or have driven to areas without people. We actually visited my old high school the other night because it was empty and we had time to kill. All of us are very allergic to pollen, so we haven’t felt the need to go outside. It’s not worth the pain.

I’ve been pretty productive recently. I’m writing a lot more for fun and have started applying for jobs. I call my friends and text people, so I haven’t gone too stir crazy yet. I’ve learned that the key is actually calling people, not texting them. It scratches the itch of being with someone outside of your family.

Yesterday, my brother and I convinced our parents to watch all the MCU movies with us. I wasn’t planning on rewatching them anytime soon since I did that twice because of Infinity War and Endgame, but I’ll do it now since my parents are watching it too. We would’ve started with Iron Man, but my brother and I felt like watching the first Captain America movie, so we started with that. We’ll watch Iron Man next.

My next post will be my reading wrap-up for February. That should be up this Friday.
