6 Things I Wish I Packed For Europe

Hello, lovelies! Today, I’m going to talk about the things I wished I packed for my Eurotrip. I was actually REALLY good at packing. All my friends were super impressed by how well I had packed for the trip. (Especially my medicine bag, the “Mary Poppins bag of drugs” when everyone got sick.) Honestly, the majority of this list is related to the weather. I went to Europe in May, and the first half of the trip felt like late winter, which is funny because Europe had a two-month heat wave right after I left.

1. //An Umbrella

The sad part about this is that I almost brought an umbrella and took it out of my bag last minute. It rained on-and-off in London, Paris, and Rome, but since it was sunny half the time, I didn’t bother buying an umbrella. Plus I kept telling myself, “The second you buy an umbrella is the second it stops raining,” and it did stop raining less than halfway through the trip, but I still kind of wish I shelled out the five Euros to buy one because it would have saved me from the cold I got in Venice. (The only day it poured all day and I was soaked down to my bra.)

2. //Warmer Clothes

I was on summer vacation, so I brought summer clothes. The only cold-weather clothes I packed were for our visit to Switzerland, which I ended up wearing more often than not. I’m so glad I brought gloves with me, but I ended up buying a beanie from Switzerland, which is a useful souvenir. I dress relatively conservatively, so I didn’t bring any shorts since I never wear them. I’m glad the majority of my clothes were wearable for the first half of the trip, but I was wearing a jacket in most of the pictures.

3. //More Socks

I had enough socks for the trip, but they were just a nuisance to wash at the hostels. I brought enough clothes to wear each outfit twice, so I only had to do clothing laundry once in Croatia, but I put my socks in with my friends’ laundry a few times because they’d stink up my carry-on and I would sometimes change into a new pair after coming back to the hostel in the middle of the day. I also wish I put them in a packing cube. Everything in my luggage was in a packing cube except my socks because I didn’t have enough of them. I just folded my socks into an empty corner, which worked well enough.

Proof that there were lots of hot and sunny days too

4.//More Cough Drops

I bought really good quality cough drops to put in my medicine bag, but I ended up giving most of them to my friends when they got sick. By the time I caught a cold (from walking in the rain without an umbrella, like an idiot), I ran out of cough drops. It was fine because my friends gave me the ones they bought in Europe, but I kind of wish I brought more.

5.//An Extra Charger

This is kind of an add on since I didn’t actually lose my charger throughout the trip. I tried not to bring a lot of duplicates because I didn’t want to overpack and I could buy anything I really needed in Europe. At the very end of the trip, when I was alone in London, my charger “broke.” It didn’t stop working, it just started charging glacially slowly. It was very annoying and not ideal when you are traveling solo, but I made do because it was my last day.

6.//A Pillowcase

I took a camping trip across Europe because it was cheaper than staying in a hostel every day, so I had a sleeping bag with me. I knew packing a pillow would be a waste of space, so I just used my neck pillow as a pillow (which got the job done). One of my friends brought a pillowcase per her mom’s recommendation, and it was such a great idea! All you need to do is stuff the pillowcase with clothing and it works like a charm. If I ever do another camping tour, I will definitely follow that tip.

Well, that’s it for now. I was actually really good at packing overall. I’m considering gathering up all the clothes and supplies and writing a “How I Packed For A Month In Europe In A Carry-On” blog post. Let me know if that’s something you’re interested in.
