My College Morning Routine | Dorm Edition

Hello, lovelies. It’s been a while. I had four tests last week, which I think is a good excuse. Anyway, it’s been some time since I wrote about my morning routine. It has gotten significantly shorter since I stopped commuting, which made this and my evening routine post quite short. Before, I had to wake up at least an hour and a half before class to even hope to get to class on time. Now I can lay in bed till the last minute and run to the bus.

This has made my morning routine much less comprehensive than my original one, so sorry if you wanted inspiration. This pretty much describes a normal weekday morning for me.

7:30 AM // Wake Up

My phone alarm goes off at 7:30 AM. I usually grab it off my bedside table and lay back in bed. I don’t even scroll through my phone. I just put it beside me and snuggle into my pillow until my roommate is done getting ready. She wakes up and leaves before me, so I usually let her have the bathroom to herself before going up. If I am fully awake, I usually grab my kindle, which is still on my bed from the night before (unless it falls on the floor), and read.

7:45 AM // Get Out Of Bed

My alarm clock goes off at 7:45. It’s all the way across the room, so I have to get out of bed to turn it off. My roommate has usually gone out to breakfast by then, so I head to the bathroom. If she’s still there, I use it as an excuse to lay in bed for five more minutes because I like having alone time in the mornings (plus playing music or a YouTube videos out loud in the background.)

7:50 AM // Brush Teeth, Wash Face, Get Ready

After that, I do the basics. I brush my teeth, floss if I didn’t the night before, wash my face, and get ready. Nothing super special about this.  It usually takes 10 minutes.

8:00 AM // Make Bed

I don’t always make my bed in the morning. Most of the time, I make it the second I get back from class because I don’t like it when my bed isn’t made. When I’m not running out the door to get to class, I make my bed.

My dorm room this year is decorated exactly like this only flipped to the opposite side.

8:05 AM // Eat Breakfast

I don’t have much of an appetite in the mornings, so my go-to breakfast the past few years has been a banana and a Naked smoothie (which my mom buys in bulk from Sam’s Club).  I make myself eat the banana every morning, but I usually save the smoothie for my second or third class, when I get my appetite back. When I’m running late (which is often), I eat the banana on the bus.

8:20 AM // Pack Lunch + Get Ready To Leave

I usually just chill in my room till 8:20, when an alarm goes off telling me to pack my lunch and head out. I eat lunch in my dorm room three times a week, so I usually don’t need to pack lunch, but I still get ready to leave at 8:20. Otherwise, I get sucked into whatever I’m doing and don’t leave in time.

8:30 AM // Get On The Bus & Read

And that’s pretty much it. I thankfully don’t have motion sickness in vehicles, so I can read just fine on the bus. This is a habit I’m glad I kept from commuting because this sometimes ends up being my only physical reading time all day (I listen to audiobooks most of the time).

This post is incredibly short, but that’s pretty much my current morning routine for you. Things are a lot less complicated now that I live on campus. My evening routine post will be pretty short as well, which is why I’m publishing it tomorrow. I’ll get back to writing longer blog posts in November when I have time.
