My September Goals & August Reflection | 2020

Hello, lovelies! I’m back with the only blog post series I write consistently: my monthly goals! Yeah…I don’t know why I keep writing these. Normally, it’s to keep me motivated and to document each month, but I feel like when I look back at 2020 in ten years, I’m going to read these posts and just see me complaining about racists and idiots or just doing nothing. (Now that I’ve written that, it’ll probably fun to read in ten years)

Anyway, August was a pretty good month. I chilled at home, hung out with my friends in person once (and virtually pretty regularly), my grandparents came back, and I started graduate school. I also think this is the first month I worked out every day, which was awesome. I feel great, but my muscles were not happy with me that first week.

To be honest, I didn’t make much progress on my goals. It looks like it because I don’t share my work and financial goals most of the time, so it wasn’t the most productive month. I still think it was a pretty good one.

(Also, WordPress is being finicky with my photos again, so I’m sorry I couldn’t insert any)

//How I Did In August//

  • Finalize Graduate School Stuff – Complete. This was just typical paperwork stuff. Plus things like paying for classes and orientation.
  • Figure Out Daily Routine For School & Work – Kind of. I have a routine going for school, but I still don’t have one when it comes to working online.
  • Dye Hair Blue – Complete. I temporarily dyed my hair blue in August and it was a lot of fun. I liked it a lot. It was pretty subtle in that it was kind of navy and blended in with my black hair. That was the type of color I was going for.
  • Declutter Bedroom Before Classes Start – Complete-ish. I haven’t decluttered everything. Just the main problem areas in my room, which made a huge difference. I go through my stuff pretty regularly, so this goal mostly consisted of folding clothes and putting things back where they belong. (I’m so glad I did this. The clutter was getting to me)
  • Organize Blog Menu – God no. I have not been blogging much in quarantine. You’d think it would be the opposite, but I actually blog more when I’m busy. I’ve said this many times before. I just thrive in chaos. When I have nothing to do, I put everything off until later because I have an infinite amount of time. Then I don’t end up blogging at all. (or working out, reading, etc.)
  • Update Blog’s “About Me” Page – Another nope.
  • Finish 7 Books – Complete. I wrote a very long reading update yesterday, so you can see them there.

//Keep Up With School Work

This has been going well so far. I fell a little bit behind the first week of online classes, mainly due to Zoom fatigue. I just can’t focus for two-and-a-half straight hours of lectures. I’m getting used to it, though. My current remedy for that is to take notes the entire time to pay attention.

I’m trying to get ahead on work and readings for now. I’ve already made my assignment list and organized my calendar. I pretty much got my school life together the first week of September. I just need to keep it that way.

//Get 2 Weeks Ahead On Blog Posts

This seems funny because I’m barely able to publish one blog post per week, so I don’t know how I’m going to get ahead. I just really want to try because having blog posts scheduled out takes a huge load off of my mind and I feel like I have more time to write better content.

//Clean Out Rest Of Room

Like I said before, I cleaned out most of the big “problem areas” that were cluttering my space and mind. Namely the area I get ready that just had hair bands, lotion, vitamins, makeup, etc. piled on the surface. Now I just need to go through little things like socks and random stacks of paper in my desk. Things that are very “out of sight, out of mind.”

//Update “About Me” Page & Organize Blog Menu

I mean…maybe this will be the month that I finally do it.

//Start Catching Up On My Classic Books List

I am significantly behind on my classic book list for this year, so I’m going to try to catch up these next few months. I’m gonna to try to finish two classic books. I may be able to get through three if I push myself.

//Work Out (At Least) Every Other Day

I’ve been less strict when it comes to my workout routine this month to focus more on school and work. I don’t want to stop working out entirely because I’ve gotten so much of my energy back after exercising every day (with rest days) these past two months. I’m just not going to push myself if I don’t feel like it some days.

//Weekly Goals

I haven’t shared my weekly goals in awhile because they’ve pretty much stayed the same. Since I didn’t share a lot of my goals for this month, I’ll share them here again. These are things I try to do every week.

  • Publish a blog post
  • Journal
  • Do a Sudoku or Word Search
  • Paint Something
  • Do an art spread in my bullet journal

//August Recap + Reflection//

August was a pretty good month. I’ve gotten used to “quarantine” and what life is like now. My friend mentioned this to me on the phone the other day. My personality took a complete 180 these past six months. I used to be doing something seven days a week on clockwork. I would take the maximum number of classes I could, worked every weekend, drove back and forth to see my family, did internships, traveled, and life was just very non-stop. I loved it that way. I was a person who always had something to do and was working towards something all the time.

And now, I’m so chill. I feel absolutely no guilt when I spend a whole day doing nothing. I’ve watched more T.V. the past six months than I have the last six years. I sleep so much more now. It’s become a bit of a running joke with my friends how much more I sleep. It’s ridiculous. I was a little sad when grad school started because I wanted to enjoy not having any  responsibilities for a little longer. (Especially since I didn’t really start enjoying it until July)

Quite a few things happened in August. I already mentioned that I temporarily dyed my hair blue. I don’t think I would do it permanently because I have very thin hair and I’m sure it would all fall out if I even attempted to bleach it, but I’d be down to do it temporarily again. Zidan started his Freshman year of college, which is bittersweet because he can’t really have the typical college experience right now. My mom and I figured out how to do Mysoon’s special education classes online and how to divide that work.

My family and I went to a drive through Zoo in Georgia last month. It was almost two hours away, but it was a fun excursion. There were a surprising amount of people there for a Monday, so I guess their business is doing well. I can’t remember the last time I went to a zoo, so it was fun to see all the animals.

I also hung out with some of my close friends last month. I’m incredibly grateful that my best friends wear masks and actually social distance when we hang out because I’m actually able to spend time with them. I don’t have to be as worried about bringing something home to my family. I know too many people who are pretending that this pandemic isn’t real and are acting like things are back to normal, which is likely why Georgia’s cases are rising, so I’m grateful that I’m not completely socially isolated at this time. We were able to hang out in the shade, eat pizza, walk around her neighborhood, take funny pictures that someone later turned into a meme.

By far the best thing that happened was that my grandparents came back from Bangladesh! It was touch and go there for awhile. Their original flight was in April, which was canceled for obvious reasons, and there were no flights back to Atlanta for months. They got sick in July. We didn’t think it was Covid-19 because they had been sick for almost two months, but my grandfather tested positive for it after we found out he had Dengue Fever. We’re assuming my grandmother also had coronavirus before him because she was the first person to get sick. It got really bad guys. We weren’t sure if they were going to make it, but I am eternally grateful they did and are home safe now. They got back on the 24th and quarantined downstairs for two weeks (We literally blocked off that section of the house so that Mysoon wouldn’t go in on accident), and we got to hug them again on Labor Day <3.

It was a really good month overall. It passed by really quickly. Unfortunately at the end of the month, another family member passed away in Bangladesh, as did a close family friend here in Georgia of coronavirus and we couldn’t go to her funeral. So guys, I know that a lot of people are saying this isn’t real because no one they know has gotten sick, but trust when I say that this is serious. Don’t be a dick.

So…yeah. That seems like a good enough way to end this post. Wear a mask, don’t forget to vote, and don’t be a dick 🙂 .
